Fabric & Care
A lungi gets better with wear — if you treat it right. Here's how.
Washing
- Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold or lukewarm water with a mild detergent.
- Wash white lungis with whites; wash coloured and checked lungis with similar colours, especially for the first few washes.
- Avoid bleach — it weakens cotton fibres and dulls coloured borders.
Drying
- Line dry in shade where possible. Direct harsh sun can fade deep colours over time.
- Shake the fabric out before hanging so it dries with fewer creases.
Ironing
- Iron cotton while slightly damp, or use a steam iron on a medium-hot setting.
- Iron borders on the reverse side to keep their sheen.
Storing
- Fold along the existing creases and store in a dry place.
- For lungis worn occasionally — wedding whites, festive silks-look weaves — refold them every few months so creases don't set permanently in one place.
Always check the product page first — some weaves and finishes have their own care notes from the maker.
